Elon Musk Predicts the Death of the Neocloud Market

Elon Musk said lenders are increasingly refusing to finance companies whose only major revenue comes from renting GPUs and AI data centers.
Elon Musk predicted the death of the neocloud market — companies that buy GPUs and rent out computing capacity.
The billionaire said that recently lenders have almost stopped giving money to companies that do not have significant revenue beyond AI data centers.
In other words, if a company's only income is renting out GPUs, banks and investors no longer want to fund it because they fear the AI bubble collapsing and losing their investments.
Musk himself, however, has no problem raising money. SpaceX recently closed $40 billion in debt to purchase GPUs, and according to him this worked because the company has an investment-grade rating and revenue from Starlink and rocket launches, not only from AI.
Others will have a harder time. Musk believes that more than 200 neoclouds face guppy-level mortality and consolidation.
Someone will survive, but few, he said.
Why it matters
AnalysisThe warning shows that AI infrastructure capital is becoming selective, favoring companies with diversified cash flows over pure GPU-rental businesses.
