Developer Investigated Samsung TV for Tracking, Then Got Banned by OpenAI

A developer who reverse-engineered a $3,000 Samsung TV to investigate targeted ads says OpenAI banned his account for alleged cybersecurity abuse despite his local-only analysis.
A developer decided to reverse-engineer his own $3,000 Samsung TV after suspecting that the device was not showing him targeted ads for no reason.
According to him, during the investigation he discovered numerous tracking and telemetry mechanisms, including:
- automatic content recognition;
- audio monitoring features;
- user profile construction.
Soon after, OpenAI blocked his account, accusing him of “abuse in the cybersecurity domain.” The developer says he never used OpenAI to search for or exploit vulnerabilities and limited himself to analyzing local binary files.
As a result of the ban, he claims he lost about $500 and accumulated limit resets.
However, the developer is not backing down. Instead, he decided to buy three more computers to expand his own cluster for running AI locally.
