OpenClaw 2.0 Released – The Largest Update in Project History
The release gathered about half of all PRs ever merged into OpenClaw (16k+).
In the new version, the installation and setup have been significantly simplified and accelerated, the web interface has been redesigned, and the capabilities of agents have been expanded: they can now generalize from simple scenarios to complex ones without reconfiguration. This means the system can determine the details of what you need, find the necessary data without explicit instructions on where to look, and so on.
The coolest new feature and a big step into the future is Shared Cloud Sessions. These are shared cloud sessions that allow connecting other people to the agent's work or passing tasks while maintaining context. Everyone is saying that agents will soon fully move to the cloud, and OpenClaw seems to be preparing for this.
Related to these cloud sessions is another interesting change that occurred within the team itself. The entire project team has been transitioned from local harnesses to team.openclaw.ai – a common agent that sees who is doing what and coordinates work among people.
According to Peter Steinberger, this has fundamentally changed the development process, and local harnesses now seem like a relic of the past.
Why it matters
