Meta Releases Muse Glimmer and Promises to Open Weights for Muse Spark 1.2

Meta has unveiled its new multimodal model Muse Glimmer, which outperforms competitors in benchmark tests. The company also announced the opening of weights for Muse Spark 1.2.
Meta Releases Muse Glimmer and Promises to Open Weights for Muse Spark 1.2
Muse Glimmer is a 30B multimodal model that surpasses Qwen 3.6 27B and Gemma 4 31B in benchmarks. This is the first notable open LLM release from Meta since April 2025, and no models from the company in this weight category have been released since Code Llama 34B in August 2023.
Architecturally, it is a dense model with a relatively large perception encoder. The main obvious downside is the context length of only 131k, which is less than its competitors.
Along with the model, official quantizations were released, allowing the model to fit into 24 gigabytes of VRAM. An official draft model was also released, enabling Muse Glimmer to run on a single 5090 at a speed of 230 tokens per second.
Why it matters
AnalysisThis is significant as Muse Glimmer represents a major advancement in multimodal models, potentially impacting various AI application areas. The opening of weights for Muse Spark 1.2 will also benefit the developer community.
