Dean W. Ball: Kimi K3 is a Strong Model for Agent Programming
Dean W. Ball, strategic leader at OpenAI, expressed that Kimi K3 is one of the strongest models on the market. He also discussed potential implications for American companies regarding Chinese AI models.
Dean W. Ball stated that Kimi K3 is a very strong model.
According to him, in agent programming, its capabilities have already approached the level of the best publicly available models of the first quarter of 2026. This result cannot simply be explained by distillation.
However, he is not saying this just to praise Kimi K3. He mentioned that "a world dominated by models with open weights is true AI communism."
He also predicts that the U.S. government will eventually find ways to prevent Chinese models from entering American companies. It is enough to create distrust towards such models, even if there are no solid grounds for it. A direct ban is not necessary; it is sufficient to create fear so that companies are hesitant to implement such models, while not pushing all developers towards foreign providers, which are even harder to regulate.
What a twist!
Why it matters
