Claude Fable 5 Aids Scientific Research

Professor Yuji Takikawa from the University of Tokyo shared how the Claude Fable 5 model helped solve a scientific problem that had stalled for six months.
We may be witnessing the beginning of a new era in science.
Yuji Takikawa, a professor at the University of Tokyo specializing in quantum field theory and string theory, stated that Claude Fable 5 helped move a collaborative research project that had not progressed for six months.
Out of curiosity, Takikawa provided the model with his research notes. Fable identified an error in the calculations, then reached the same deadlock as the researchers, and after an additional prompt, developed an alternative approach.
According to Takikawa:
"It made a non-trivial observation and essentially solved this problem."
He was also surprised that the model independently used SymPy (a tool for symbolic mathematical computations) to write code and verify its own conclusions.
In the end, he added:
"I got the impression that Fable really understands string theory and even has a kind of intuition."
It is important to understand that this is the account of one researcher, not a published or independently verified scientific result.
But this is no longer just another increase in benchmarks. This is an example of how an advanced language model helped advance real research in theoretical physics.
p.s. The researcher has already deleted the viral tweet, explaining:
"I deleted this tweet because it unexpectedly gained too much traction. I just wanted to share information about this tool as a researcher."
Why it matters
AnalysisThis case demonstrates how AI can significantly impact scientific research by helping identify errors and propose new approaches. It opens up new possibilities for the use of technology in science.
