Claude Code Introduces Screen Reader Support
Claude Code Introduces Screen Reader Support
Claude Code now supports screen readers, enhancing accessibility for users with disabilities.
Claude Code has introduced a screen reader support mode. The command claude --ax-screen-reader replaces the visual terminal interface with a standard linear text format that can be correctly read by screen readers like VoiceOver and NVDA.
In this mode, labeled lines (you:, claude:, tool:) appear, along with numbered menus where the response is selected by number, and an audio signal when Claude requires your attention.
To enable this mode permanently, add "axScreenReader": true in ~/.claude/settings.json or set the environment variable CLAUDE_AX_SCREEN_READER=1.
