Anthropic Accuses Chinese Operators of Illegally Distilling Claude Again
Startup Anthropic has accused operators linked to Alibaba of illegally extracting capabilities from the Claude model through fake accounts.
This has never happened before, and here we are again.
The startup claims that operators associated with Alibaba Qwen conducted the largest "attack" on Claude to date: they recorded approximately 28.8 million interactions through nearly 25,000 fake accounts over a span of one and a half months.
According to Anthropic, the main goal was to extract model capabilities in coding, reasoning, and tool usage.
Currently, Anthropic has sent an official letter to several senators requesting Congress to respond. However, there has been no response from the government, nor comments from Alibaba.
