Anthropic introduces Claude Duet on Opus 5.5 as rival to Dots and Grok Bot
Anthropic has unveiled Claude Duet, an Opus 5.5-based AI agent with its own VM, browser, and thousands of connectors. It is currently a preview for U.S. Pro and Max subscribers.
Anthropic has introduced Claude Duet, a new AI agent built on the Opus 5.5 model and positioned as a rival to OpenAI Dots and Grok Bot.
Key capabilities highlighted in the announcement:
- Availability. Claude Duet is available on the Claude Pro plan. By comparison, Dots requires a ChatGPT Pro subscription at $100 per month.
- Model. The agent runs on Opus 5.5, which the announcement calls the world’s best model.
- Isolated environment. Each agent has its own virtual machine and browser.
- Integrations. It supports more than 6,000 connectors, compared with about 4,000 for Dots.
- Autonomy. Claude Duet keeps working even when your laptop is off and sends a morning summary of tasks that need attention.
- One continuous chat. All assignments are handled in a single chat thread, using text or voice instructions.
- Context. The agent uses Claude’s memory, skills, and connected apps.
- Business operations. It can track unpaid invoices, process payroll, and send contracts for signature.
- Safer purchases. Purchases can be made with virtual cards that hide the user’s real bank card number.
- Confirmation for risky actions. Before sending messages, making payments, signing documents, or deleting data, Claude Duet asks for confirmation.
- Passwords. The app never gets access to passwords.
- Platforms. It is available on iOS, Android, and the web.
Claude Duet is currently a preview with a waitlist for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States.
There is no separate fee for the app, but its activity consumes the limits of the existing plan.
Why it matters
AnalysisClaude Duet shows how AI agents are moving from chat interfaces to autonomous operation inside virtual environments. This increases automation, but also raises new questions about safety, confirmation workflows, and plan-limit consumption.
