Cursor Introduces New Automatic Model Selection Mode

Cursor has launched a new Router feature that automatically selects a model for tasks, optimizing costs and quality. This feature promises significant savings without compromising quality.
Cursor Introduces New Automatic Model Selection Mode
The feature is called Router. Users simply need to select Auto mode and set an optimization parameter: quality, cost, or balance. The system analyzes each request and redirects it to the most suitable model.
Developers claim that with this mode, significant savings can be achieved without sacrificing quality. The first graph shows A/B testing on real traffic, with cost on one axis and user satisfaction on the other. The Intelligence mode achieves Fable 5 high results at 60% lower cost, while the Balance mode even provides a quality boost compared to Opus 4.8 with approximately 36% savings.
There are also measurements for cost per commit, where the Balance mode is significantly cheaper than Opus 4.8, yet performs no worse and even better according to the first graph.
Currently, it is only available for Teams and Enterprise, and there is no information about a release for other plans. We hope that this mode will not bypass regular users.
Why it matters
AnalysisThis new feature allows users to optimize their AI model costs, potentially reducing project expenses significantly. It also enhances the efficiency of working with AI, which is crucial for businesses.
