Trump on AI Control: "The Only Guardrail is a Strong President"

Donald Trump stated that the only necessary guardrail for AI is a strong US president, criticizing Anthropic's CEO and highlighting the US-China AI race.
Donald Trump published a sharp statement regarding the future of AI regulation. In his view, the only necessary "control" or "guardrail" for AI is a "STRONG AND SMART (high IQ!) PRESIDENT," and the US has one, "with room to spare."
According to Trump, his administration did not allow AI "actors" to do bad or potentially harmful things, specifically mentioning Dario Amodei (CEO of Anthropic), who he claims is currently "pretending to be a perfect little angel." Trump emphasized that the government already has "huge CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power" over these companies.
He also claimed that a "PAINFUL conspiracy" is being waged against AI and data centers, and the only one happy about it is China. "WHOEVER WINS IN AI, WINS! We are leading China and everyone else, and we will continue to do so," Trump wrote, warning "conspiracy theorists, traitors, and leakers."
He ended the post with an ironic note: "Unfortunately, this is not generated."
Why it matters
AnalysisThis statement reveals a political stance favoring minimal institutional regulation of AI in the US, relying instead on presidential authority, while underscoring the geopolitical competition with China.
