OpenAI Releases GPT-Live – Next-Generation Voice Mode

AI Daily Digest•Verified Tech Release
Executive TL;DR30s read

OpenAI has introduced the new GPT-Live model, which allows simultaneous speaking and listening, opening up new possibilities for user interaction.

OpenAI has released GPT-Live – a next-generation voice mode. Although the release happened yesterday, the news about Grok-4.5 somewhat overshadowed this event.

So, what do we have:

  • The model has been trained to listen and speak simultaneously. Even in Advanced Voice Mode, it was still a turn-taking exchange. Opus 5 is still delayed, but the Codex update is already here.

The ChatGPT Voice feature has been integrated based on the recently released GPT-Live. The model can simultaneously speak, listen, and coordinate the work of agents in the application.

It’s worth noting that the architecture has been replaced with Full-Duplex. This means that instead of the sequence "user -> processing -> response," GPT-Live listens, updates, and thinks simultaneously. Specifically, every few seconds, it makes a decision: to continue listening, interrupt, call a tool, etc.

Now we can expect true vibe coding. Feel like Tony Stark.

P.S. In the update, many expected to see the promised GPT-5.6 Sol on Cerebras. However, it seems that this release is postponed for now.

Why it matters

Analysis

This is significant as the new GPT-Live technology opens up new possibilities for interactive user engagement, which could fundamentally change the approaches to developing voice assistants.
