OpenAI Responds to Apple's Espionage Allegations

OpenAI has issued a response to Apple's allegations of theft of confidential information, revealing details of the case. It turns out the accusations are based on misunderstandings and errors.

OpenAI Responds to Apple's Espionage Allegations

To recap the context: Apple filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing former employees Chang Liu and Tang Tan of stealing confidential information after moving to a new company (specifically, a division focused on gadget development).

Now OpenAI has released a response, and the tone is rather irritated.

In terms of timelines, things turned out to be more mundane than in the lawsuit: a letter allegedly "left unanswered" in February was simply sent by Apple's lawyers... to the wrong place, confusing two employees with similar Asian surnames (lol). The conversation with OpenAI's counsel, which Apple referenced, actually never took place. After a brief correspondence, Apple remained silent for six months and then immediately filed the lawsuit.

As for the retained accesses of one of the employees, the situation is quite amusing: it turns out he received access to files after his dismissal at the request of former colleagues who asked for help with a project. OpenAI even includes the correspondence. For the second employee, Apple has no evidence, and he claims that the accusations are entirely fabricated (by the way, he worked for Cook for over 20 years).
