GLM-5.3 Helped Build Production Inference for GLM-5.3-Flash

Z.ai published an engineering report showing how GLM-5.3 helped build production inference for GLM-5.3-Flash on a cluster of more than 100,000 Chinese accelerators.

Z.ai published an engineering report describing how the GLM-5.3 model participated in building production inference for GLM-5.3-Flash.

The team frames the process as a first step toward recursive self-improvement and says such practices “completely change how the next generations of models are built.”

The engineers had to deploy a cluster of 100,000+ Chinese accelerators (not Nvidia). According to the authors, this is the first deployment of Chinese-made chips at that scale.

GLM-5.3 was used to optimize performance and speed. In just two weeks, engineers increased throughput by 3x with the model’s help.

The agent independently formulated hypotheses about where speed was lost and wrote fixes. Humans set goals, monitored safety, and made final decisions.

Three specific fixes the agent made autonomously:

  • removed a Python GIL bottleneck that consumed ~20% of performance;
  • sped up the decode kernel by 1.71x;
  • fixed numerical precision in the KDA kernel for long context; the fix was later merged into Flash Linear Attention.

Analysis

This shows how AI agents can shorten the inference optimization cycle and reduce dependence on manual engineering. It also highlights large-scale production deployment on Chinese accelerators without Nvidia.
