Developer Robbie Tilton has released Compositor, a free open-source image editor that he created as a replacement for Photoshop.
The application weighs only 12 MB. For comparison, an installed version of Photoshop takes up 6.455 GB.
Compositor includes all the main tools for compositing and was originally created for personal use to drop the Adobe subscription.
Tilton notes that he continues to use classic image editing, as AI does not yet always provide the required precision at the individual pixel level.
Why it matters
AnalysisIt highlights the demand for lightweight, open-source tools that can replace heavy commercial software for specific workflows where AI lacks pixel-perfect control.
