FreeVideo Brings MiniMax H3 Video Generation to Home GPUs
FreeVideo, a ComfyUI plugin, enables local video generation based on MiniMax H3 with low hardware requirements, LoRA support, references, and first/last frames.
FreeVideo is a ComfyUI plugin that enables video generation based on MiniMax H3 on consumer hardware. The stated minimum for generation is 8 GB of VRAM and 16 GB of RAM. The tool supports LoRA, first and last frames, and reference images. A Windows installer automatically sets up the environment and downloads models.
At the core is an 8-step VDN-H3 architecture with hybrid attention. The engine distributes weights across VRAM, system RAM, and disk, loading required parts during generation.
For 8 GiB VRAM and 16 GiB RAM, the authors report 13.8 seconds per generation step, but this measurement was made on a server-grade H200 with an artificial memory limit. The documentation does not include a full video benchmark on a home 8 GB card. On Windows with an RTX 5060 Ti (16 GB VRAM, 32 GB RAM), generating 10 seconds of 768p video takes 486 seconds.
Why it matters
AnalysisFreeVideo lowers the barrier to local AI video generation and shows how hybrid attention and weight offloading can run heavier models on consumer GPUs.
