Anthropic reportedly abandons Git under AI-scale code workloads

Anthropic reportedly developed its own source-control replacement in five months because its AI makes over 30,000 code changes daily and performs about 25 million code downloads per day.
Anthropic has reportedly moved away from Git, the version-control tool used by almost every software developer to save code and track changes.
The reason is the scale of AI-driven work. According to the material, Anthropic’s AI makes more than 30,000 changes to code every day and performs about 25 million code downloads per day. If these operations ran through Git, they would create more than 600 petabytes of traffic each day.
As a result, the company reportedly built its own replacement for source control in five months.
Why it matters
AnalysisIt shows that conventional developer infrastructure may become a bottleneck when AI agents generate and consume code at massive scale, pushing companies to redesign source-control systems.
