Anthropic renames subscription plans: Max and Ultra replace multipliers

Anthropic has renamed its paid Claude plans: Max 5x becomes Max, while Max 20x becomes Ultra. Verified Ultra accounts will also lose the 5-hour limit.
Anthropic renames subscription plans
Anthropic has updated the naming of its paid Claude plans. The Max 5x plan priced at $100 is now simply Max, while the Max 20x plan priced at $200 is now called Ultra.
Anthropic’s subscription product lead said the new names are intended to be more informative. When the highest plan was launched in April 2025, it had only a single 5-hour limit and provided 20x the usage of the Pro plan, which is why it was named Max 20x.
Later, weekly limits were added to Max 20x. They were set at 10x the Pro level, while the 5-hour limit remained at 20x. Some new users apparently assumed that the 20x multiplier applied to both limits.
“We could have been clearer with this plan, and I’m sorry.”
Recently, there was significant dissatisfaction around Anthropic’s subscriptions because actual usage limits did not always match user expectations. As a result, the company decided to remove numbers and multipliers from plan names to avoid creating misleading expectations.
5-hour limit removed for verified Ultra accounts
For verified Ultra accounts, Anthropic is removing the 5-hour limit entirely. Sessions will no longer be interrupted in the middle of work, and users will only need to track weekly limits.
The change is not only cosmetic: it reflects Anthropic’s attempt to reduce confusion around how its AI subscription limits actually work.
Why it matters
AnalysisSimpler names and the removal of the 5-hour limit make Anthropic’s paid tiers easier to understand, especially for users who rely on long coding or analysis sessions.
