OpenAI Launches GPT-6 Sol and Luna: Pricing Undercuts DeepSeek V4.1 Flash

OpenAI has released GPT-6 Sol and Luna, with the latter offering API pricing lower than DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, signaling a shift in market competition.
Following the Opus announcement, OpenAI has released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna.
In terms of pricing, GPT-6 Luna has even surpassed DeepSeek V4.1 Flash. The API cost is $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens. This is cheaper than the DeepSeek V4.1 Flash rate during off-peak hours.
It’s not just about the price. According to OpenAI's charts, GPT-6 Luna shows solid results in coding tests like DeepSWE and FrontierCode, while the cost per task remains very low.
Of course, DeepSeek still holds the lead in some metrics. In DeepSWE v1.1, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash scores 74.2 points, while Luna sits around 67.
But the difference of a few points is no longer the main story. Previously, it was believed that American models competed on capabilities while Chinese models competed on price. Now, OpenAI has entered the price race as well.
