Cursor Launches GitHub Competitor – Origin
Cursor has introduced a new platform called Origin, designed to compete with GitHub for agents. This platform allows for quick repository synchronization and integrates with Vercel for automatic deployment.
Cursor Launches GitHub Competitor – Origin
Repositories from GitHub can be synced directly in a minute, and repositories can also be created from scratch.
The main idea is that Origin is meant to become the GitHub for agents. GitHub is architecturally designed for human pace: one developer, one branch, PR every few hours. Agents, however, push constantly, and Origin is built for such a scenario. For context, Cursor demonstrated 22.6 commits per second to a single repository.
Currently, there are no features for automatic conflict resolution during merges or handling parallel agents; the product only includes a base and familiar agents. However, there are interesting features like Vercel integration: you connect to the repo, and every PR automatically gets a preview deployment.
Interestingly, did Cursor choose the release day when GitHub experienced major outages?
Why it matters
AnalysisThis news is significant as Origin could change the way software development is approached, especially regarding the use of autonomous agents. The integration with Vercel also opens new possibilities for automating development processes.
