OpenAI Prepares Animated GIF Generation for ChatGPT

OpenAI has added experimental support for animated GIF generation in Codex, powered by the OpenAI Images API. The feature could soon arrive in ChatGPT as a replacement for static images.
OpenAI has added support for animated GIF generation in Codex.
The feature is hidden behind a new flag: image_generation_animation.
Users will be able to:
- set the number of frames;
- control the duration of each frame;
- convert sprite sheets into animated GIFs.
Notably, the animation creation is handled directly by the OpenAI Images API, not by Codex itself. This suggests that the capability could eventually appear in ChatGPT.
Static images may soon no longer be enough.
Why it matters
AnalysisAnimated output would make AI visuals more useful for UI mockups, social content, and quick motion concepts without separate animation tools.
