Anthropic has revised restrictions on creating games in Claude Code

Less than a week after a rule appeared in Claude Code banning the recreation of existing games, Anthropic quietly rewrote it. The server flag remained the same: tengu_heron_brook.

Two changes were made to the rule:

  • It now explicitly allows creating games with mechanics similar to those of existing projects.
  • It clarifies that recreating an existing game means copying its name, characters, graphics, music, levels, or appearance.

In addition, Anthropic added a second flag, original_games_guidance, and in Claude Code 2.1.317 the new wording is already built directly into the application.

There is still no way to disable this restriction.

Analysis

The update shows how quickly AI coding tools can adjust content policies, expanding room for original game mechanics while still blocking direct asset copying.
