Alibaba Releases Open-Source Image Generator Qwen-Image-2.1

Alibaba has released Qwen-Image-2.1, a lightweight open-source image generator that outperforms competitors on its own benchmark.
Alibaba has released Qwen-Image-2.1 as open-source software. This image generator weighs only 7 billion parameters but outperforms GPT Image 1.5 and Nano Banana 2.0 on Qwen's proprietary benchmark.
The model accepts up to 10 reference images as input, supports precise local control, can generate and edit images without backgrounds, and works excellently with text and infographics.
Why it matters
